From the CEO: Why We Sponsor Dreamin’ In Color

A lot of companies will tell you they care about the pipeline problem in tech.

Job postings say "entry-level, 3+ years experience required" and nobody blinks. Panels get organized. Statements get issued. And the actual rungs on the ladder — the ones a new person is supposed to climb up on their way in — keep disappearing anyway.  Only now it's happening faster, because AI is quietly eating the exact work that used to teach a junior person how to think and build judgement.

We've written about this before: the visible cut is the roles going away. The invisible cut is worse. Judgment doesn't form in a vacuum — it's a long game, built rep by rep, like a workout routine.  When AI absorbs that work before anyone gets to practice it, that efficiency comes at a cost: you're failing to build the senior practitioner five years from now.

So here's the thing. We don’t want to just talk about it. We want to do something about it, and we’re already on that path.

Right now, in partnership with AchieveAbility, BrightHelm has a fellow doing real client work with us — not just shadowing, not a simulation, not a dev org. Real build, real QA, real sign-offs, real accountability, starting from zero and structured the same way we train our employees. We built that model first for veterans from Hiring our Heroes, because that's the pipeline we knew best. We're now deliberately building a second track to open doors beyond that first pool of learners, because a model that only ever draws from people who served is still too narrow — and we'd rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise.

That's why Dreamin' In Color matters to us specifically. This isn't a conference that talks about opportunity and stops there — it funds a nonprofit running its own internship pipeline for people trying to get into this ecosystem. That's the same problem we're working on, from a different angle, with people we don't yet know how to reach as well as we'd like to.

We're not sponsoring for the optics. We're sponsoring because this is one of maybe two events (alongside WITness Success) in the whole ecosystem dedicated to doing something real about the pipeline problem. We wanted to be in the room too — not to talk about the ladder, but because we're standing on one we built.

See you in Atlanta.
